For homework this week we are sending home a review of the number line subtraction we did earlier this year.
When using this strategy we start by placing the bigger number on our number line. Remember to start on the right. Then we break the smaller number into expanded form. For example 236= 200+30+6. We use the expanded form to jump by 1000s, 100s, 10s, and 1s. This means that in our question below we had to make 2 jumps back by 100. Sometimes using different colours can help us keep track. Below is the example we have in our room.
