In Language Arts we explored early forms of story telling.  Ask me the difference between a petroglyph and a pictograph.  Students began to create a story about their personal experiences that they think would be important to share with future generations.

We are very excited to have a math test coming up on Monday afternoon!  We will show off our knowledge of Place Value.  I have attached a couple copies of some review sheets to practice this weekend.  We will be tested on such concepts as place value, value of a digit in specific place value position, representing numbers with base-10, expanded form and written form.

Our Terry Fox Run was a huge success!  The weather was fantastic.  Students counted the number of laps completed.  We tallied the results for our class discovered we completed 297 laps as a class.  Way to go!
Here are some images from the run.

Please remember that tomorrow is Orange Day.  Please see our school website for additional information.

Today we began to look at how knowledge and stories were told in Alberta hundreds of years ago.  Ask me why petroglyphs were important to the First Nation peoples of Alberta.

In Social, we began to study Alberta.  We brainstormed in our journals what we thought Alberta looks like on a map.  We included places and landforms we thought were in our province.  Ask me what I thought Alberta looks like!

*****French test tomorrow on the numbers 1-20******

We are working on co-operative games in Physical Education.  Ask me how to play "Chuck-the-Chicken."

Reminder there is no school on Friday because of parent conferences

Tuesday, September 20, 2016

This afternoon, we used our knowledge of place value to count a pile of math manipulatives.  Ask me the strategy we used to compute such a large total.

We also have a French numbers test on Thursday.  I need to memorize the numbers 1-20.  My test will be on correctly spelling the words and speaking the numbers orally.  Here is a link to Quizlet.  This website is a great resource to help me practice.

Today in math, we began to explore place value.  We watched a video by MathAntics which helped us understand how place value positions work.

We also worked on completing our Silhouette Art so we can decorate the class.  When you come to conferences, see if you can spot your child's silhouette.  They included images of 5 things they like, 3 things that are important to them and 1 thing they can't live without.

**Don't forget to book a conference for either Thursday evening or Friday morning**

Friday, September 16, 2016

This morning we explored some wonders on the website Wonderopolis.  We looked at how mood rings were created and how sawfish catch their prey.

In Science, we learned about the 4 R's.  Ask me what they are, what they mean and give examples of how each can create less waste entering our landfills.

We were introduced to Thorncliffe's new Learning Commons this afternoon.  Each student is learning the routines to log on to both the Mac Desktop computers and the Macbook laptops.

If your child would like to use headphones, they must be supplied from home.  We will not be sharing headphones among students.

Tomorrow afternoon, students will write a brief math quiz to demonstrate their understanding of both increasing and decreasing number sequences.

In math this week, we have been studying increasing and decreasing number patterns and figuring out the "gap" between a set of numbers.
