Musical Ride
Special Opportunity June 4:
Today our neighbour school, Corpus Christi, celebrated their 60th Anniversary. They had a Musical Ride from Lord Strathcona’s Horse Ceremonial Mounted Troop Cavalry Ride.
We were invited to watch. Our class gathered on Thorncliffe School’s front grassy area and viewed the horses and riders perform. What a wonderful to learn more about this unique and vital link to Alberta's history!

Neighbours of the World
We are talking about Calgary, Alberta, and Canada in Social Studies.
Did you know that Calgary has an official theme song? It's true!
Our class voted and WAY more than half of the class said they liked it- here's what the album cover looks like-
It was created to welcome the world to the 1988 Winter Olympics right here in Calgary!

Fractions
We started looking at fractions today. We talked about how fractions are used to describe a part of a whole. Students were asked to look for examples at home that could be described at less than half or more than half. The examples we used were walking to school (more than halfway there, less than halfway there), or a car's gas tank. What examples can you think of?

Social - Immigration Posters
We are looking at vintage posters advertising land for new immigrants in Western Canada. Below are some of the examples we have looked at. Posted above is a set of questions we have used to think critically about what the posters are showing (and what they left out).
We have also talked about modern day advertising and what companies do to convince consumers to buy their products. It has led to great conversations and creative pitches!
