Room 2 students participated in a challenge to create an Olympic Torch using a limited number of materials, and a set design time.

Thursday, February 22 is Fun Lunch!!

Thanks to council for bringing the Celtic Rathskallions to Thorncliffe School to present their singing, dancing and storytelling to the teachers and students.

Students were asked to participate by singing the chorus of Mary Mac.  As a class, we then looked into alliteration.  We composed tongue twisters using alliteration in class.

Math Homework

A handout with some math came home today.  Students need to complete the table that shows the total amount of money earned after 30 days.

We will welcome two new students this week.  Welcome to Dominic in grade 4 and Ayanna in Grade 3

An important notice will come home this week about Iris.  Iris is a CBE personalized learning tool that will be introduced to students in the coming months.

Today in math, students completed an addition and subtraction assessment.  These assessments allow students to demonstrate personal strategies to solve equations.  Tomorrow, students will be assessed on multiplication and division.

We continue to learn about Global Citizenship in Social Studies.  We learned how the International Olympic Committee promotes Peace and Global Citizenship through sport.  We learned about the Olympic Truce and created commemorative stamps with our own personal symbol that represents peace and/or global citizenship.

On Wednesday, February 7 lunch times are switched among classes.  Mr. Koch's class had recess at 12:15 then ate at 12:40.  On Wednesday, we switch.  Mr. Koch's class will eat lunch at 12:15 and enjoy recess at 12:40

If your child brought home their writing journal, they need to complete a paragraph about our read aloud, "Slacker."  Here are some screen shots of the text if they need a refresher.  Please initial their paragraph upon completion.

Spirit Day this month will take place on Tuesday, February 27.  This day's activity revolves around the Winter Olympics.

We completed a math basic fact assessment this week.  We had to demonstrate our proficiency with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division basic facts.  I wrote an action plan on how I will improve upon an area I feel I need to demonstrate growth in.  Please initial my growth plan in my Math journal.
