In math we continue to practice multiplication.  Please take time to review your basic multiplication facts.  Here is a video explaining multi-digit multiplication.  A practice sheet has been included.

In math we looked at how to multiply single digit equations using pictures and arrays.
Ex: 4 x 3 =  A)  4 groups with 3 in each   B)  4 rows with 3 in each column.

Ask me how to illustrate these for you.

These methods are really slow when multiplying 2 digit x 1 digit equations.

For Monday, see if you can research a quicker method of multiplying large numbers you can then teach the class.

Today in math we learned the 6 through 9 multiplication tables.  Please work on committing these basic math facts to memory.

***There will be a quick quiz on Friday on all multiplication facts up to 9x9**

We worked hard on problem solving with sums and multiples.  Here are two challenges we worked through.  See if you can work with me on solving the second challenge!!

We continued to learn about empathy today.  We were partnered up and came up with a greeting we can use every day as well as a secret handshake.  Ask me to show you the handshake we came up with.

Today we researched about tonight's upcoming lunar eclipse.  Ask me what I learned about a lunar eclipse, and how it differs from a solar eclipse.

We also painted a work of art that is our interpretation of an eclipse.  We used the concepts we are familiar with from a Venn Diagram to create our pieces.  Stay tuned for pictures when we have them complete.

*****Tomorrow is a non-instructional day (PD DAY) for students / No School on Friday, Feb. 3****

For next week - Please document / take notes about all the places in your everyday life you experience math.  We looked at some examples in class such as math in the grocery store, at the gas pumps, etc.  Please bring your examples to class on Monday.

We finished our novel study about "Matilda"-  Ask me to summarize what happened in the story and give you examples of why or why not I enjoyed the story.
