Hat On! For Brain Health Day Wednesday May 1st

On Wednesday, May 1, 2019, Albertans are invited to take part in Hats On! For Mental Health and wear a hat to raise awareness of the importance of positive mental health.

We got to see the election process in the gym and read about the different political parties from work by the grade 5/6's. Then we voted! The results of our election are below. Tomorrow we will find out if the adults in Calgary Klein voted the same or differently!

Alberta Short Stories

Hi parents!

Today we sent home our "work in progress" Alberta short stories.  Each story also includes a checklist as well as a rubric that will be used for assessment. Please take the opportunity to read your child's story and talk about next steps. Feel free to add comments to share!

Learning on the Land- Volunteers Needed!

Hi Everyone,

Thursday April 25th will be a special day at Thorncliffe School. We will be taking part in a "Learning on the Land" activity. If we have enough volunteers I would like to plan a walking trip off site to a park in the surrounding neighbourhood. Today we sent home catalogues and order forms for Vesey's Bulbs as part of our spring fundraiser. What a great way to make our neighbourhood even more beautiful!

Neighbours of the World

We are talking about Calgary, Alberta, and Canada in Social Studies.
Did you know that Calgary has an official theme song? It's true!
Our class voted and WAY more than half of the class said they liked it- here's what the album cover looks like-

It was created to welcome the world to the 1988 Winter Olympics right here in Calgary!

Fractions

We started looking at fractions today. We talked about how fractions are used to describe a part of a whole. Students were asked to look for examples at home that could be described at less than half or more than half. The examples we used were walking to school (more than halfway there, less than halfway there), or a car's gas tank. What examples can you think of?
