Hello Parents and Guardians,
We are continuing our exploration of light and shadows. Last week students created a diagram solving a challenge involving reflecting light from one place to another.
Today students began designing a science experiment. First, we came up with some questions we could test, such as how light interacts with transparent, translucent, and opaque objects. Each student is responsible for posing a question, formulating a hypothesis, listing materials, and creating a procedure for their experiment. The next step is to conduct the experiment, record their observations, and form a conclusion based on what they observed.

Hello Parents and Guardians,
For homework this week we are sending home a review of the number line subtraction we did earlier this year.
When using this strategy we start by placing the bigger number on our number line. Remember to start on the right. Then we break the smaller number into expanded form. For example 236= 200+30+6. We use the expanded form to jump by 1000s, 100s, 10s, and 1s. This means that in our question below we had to make 2 jumps back by 100. Sometimes using different colours can help us keep track. Below is the example we have in our room.
Please return the Homework by Tuesday.
Thanks,
Mr. Larson

Polygons and Quadrilaterals
Today we reviewed the definition of POLYGON and QUADRILATERAL.
A POLYGON is any two dimensional shape formed with straight lines.
A QUADRILATERAL is a two dimensional shape with four straight lines.
We found that all quadrilaterals are polygons, but not all polygons are quadrilaterals.
We then tried to imagine a quadrilateral that was NOT a polygon.
Reid has created a shape- It is not a polygon because it has a curved line, but is it a quadrilateral?
What do YOU think?
