Dear Parents and Guardians,
Here is an update of our current topics of study in Social Studies and Science.
In social studies this year we are talking about Alberta. We are currently working on the Alberta Programs of Study outcomes listed under 4.1 Alberta: A Sense of the Land. These outcomes focus on the landscape and environment of Alberta, including physical geography, climate, geology, and paleontology. We started our investigation by demonstrating our understanding of reading a map and creating a map. Next we are looking at the different natural regions in Alberta, such as the Foothills, Rocky Mountains, and Canadian Shield.
Today we are starting our new Science unit: Rocks and Minerals. We will begin this unit by focusing on the Program of Studies outcomes for comparing various rocks and describing the properties of rocks (including colour, lustre, and texture).
